This year, the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum will be a bit interesting – thanks to one of the sessions, which is named “Preparing for Disease X.” The Forum, in 2024, will be organized in Davos, Switzerland.

So what is ‘Disease X,’ another threat to the world?

While explaining the word, the World Health Organisation (WHO) highlighted that the term “represents the knowledge that a serious international epidemic could be caused by a pathogen currently unknown to cause human disease,” as per Fortune Well.

It is to be noted that the word “Disease X” has been trending on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Google – a week before the organization has been scheduled to happen.

How has the United States reacted to the session?

The former Trump-era Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the US Treasury Department and Fox News analyst – Monica Crowley took her official X account to share her point on the session.

A section of her post read, “Next week in Davos, the unelected globalists at the World Economic Forum will hold a panel on a future pandemic 20x deadlier than COVID. Starring the head of the WHO (which is essentially controlled by the Chinese Communist Party) and the Chair of the Board of AstraZeneca.”

She furthermore mentioned, “I guess they figured Bill Gates on the panel would be too obvious.

Just in time for the election, a new contagion allowed them to implement a new WHO treaty, lockdown again, restrict free speech, and destroy more freedoms.

Sound far-fetched? So did what happened in 2020.”

In addition to this, Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security – Dr Amersh Adlaja, while having a conversation with Fortune, mentioned, “Those in the medical and public health professions have always conducted thought experiments and tabletop exercises to prepare for pandemics.”

“These exercises serve the vital function of identifying strengths and weaknesses, as well as highlighting important aspects of response that merit further refinement,” he added during the conversation.

“To arbitrarily suggest these exercises and meetings are part of some kind of conspiracy evades the actual purpose they serve and the problems on which they are trying to gain traction, all for the nihilistic purpose of compromising pandemic preparedness and brazen pandering,” he can be quoted further, as per Fortune.

Another expert, the vice chair of medicine for data integrity and analytics at Johns Hopkins’ Department of Medicine – Dr. Stuart Ray, stated that the world leaders would showcase their “irresponsibility” if they did not meet at the forum, according to the reports shared by Fortune.

He was quoted saying, “There have been multiple such events in recorded history, and the recent coronavirus pandemic taught us that rapid response can save millions of lives. Coordination of public health response is not a conspiracy; it’s simply responsible planning.”

Moreover, Dr Ray emphasised on the fact that the meetings should be publicized as “such planning requires oversight, appreciation for personal impact on personal and economic freedom, and impact on special populations,” he added. “It makes good sense for a global public health organization, scientific leaders, and interested private individuals to be involved,” as per Fortune.

Excluding ‘Disease X,’ the WHO’s key pathogens include…

It is to be noted that the World Health Organisation has listed “priority pathogens” that are most concerning for public health because they can spread widely, and there might not be enough ways to control or treat them.

According to the officials, the list was last updated in 2018, and it was anticipated that it would be updated last year, but the update was postponed to 2024.

The reports by Fortune mentioned that the list is not comprehensive and doesn’t indicate the most likely cause of the next epidemic or pandemic. The group has, however, shared a list of pathogens that are examined by health experts and officials. To be noted, they have also kept an eye on “Disease X”.

The list included:

  • Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever
  • COVID (SARS-CoV-2)
  • Ebola & Marburg virus diseases
  • Lassa fever
  • Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS)
  • Nipah and other henipaviral diseases
  • Rift Valley fever
  • Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV-1)
  • Zika virus
